Epson TM-H6000VI setup guide: receipts, slips and network
Unbox the TM-H6000VI, fit the slip ribbon, load the receipt roll, run the receipt and slip tests and connect it over USB, Ethernet or serial.
In this guide
From the box to a receipt and slip test and a working connection. Written for our C31CL25102; most steps apply to every TM-H6000VI.
- 80 mm thermal receipt rolls, up to 83 mm in diameter. A starter roll is in the box
- An interface cable: a USB 2.0 cable with a USB-B plug, an Ethernet cable or an RS-232 serial cable. Epson's box list has no interface cable
- A Windows 10 or 11 PC with administrator rights, or your POS system
- Slip forms to test with, and optionally a 24 V cash drawer
Before you start
Know your version
The TM-H6000VI is a hybrid printer: a thermal printer for receipts and a 9-pin impact printer for slips, in one unit. Epson Europe sells the C31CL25102 as "TM-H6000VI-102,Srl,Blk, PSU, EU".
| In the name | What it means |
|---|---|
| Srl | A factory-fitted RS-232 serial port, in addition to the USB and Ethernet ports that every TM-H6000VI has |
| Blk | Black housing |
| PSU | Epson lists the PS-190 power supply for this version |
| No "MICR" or "EP" | Epson's standard model: receipt and slip printing, without the MICR cheque reader, endorsement printer or validation printing of other versions |
Check the box
Epson Europe lists the printer, a starter roll, an ERC-32 slip ribbon cartridge, a connector cover, a power switch cover and the setup guide. Epson says the AC adapter, AC cable and LED information label may not come with every version, so check for them.
Choose a good spot
A firm, level surface in a room between 5 and 45 °C and 10–90 % relative humidity, with room for the covers to open fully. The printer weighs about 4.4 kg.
Remove the transport protection
Remove all tape and protective parts, outside and inside. Epson's setup guide shows where each one sits; one is only reachable with the receipt unit open. Close all covers again.
Install the driver first
Epson says to install the driver before you connect the printer to the computer. On Windows, the driver is the EPSON Advanced Printer Driver 6 (APD6) for TM-H6000VI, version 6.12 in October 2026, on the Epson Download Center. In Europe, choose the package marked "Europe/the Middle East/Africa". The same page has the TM-H6000VI Utility for printer settings.
The installer works as for other Epson receipt printers: follow our Epson driver guide for Windows with the TM-H6000VI package. POS software that uses Epson OPOS or JavaPOS needs those Epson packages instead; ask your supplier.
Connect the cables and power
All connectors are at the lower rear:
| Connector | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Serial (RS-232) | A PC or POS terminal with a serial port |
| DM-D connector | Epson DM-D customer displays only |
| Drawer kick connector | A 24 V cash drawer |
| Status sheet button | Prints a status sheet, or resets the network settings |
| USB Type-A | Epson accessories such as the wireless LAN unit or a USB customer display |
| Ethernet | Your network |
| Power supply connector | The PS-190 power supply |
| USB Type-B | The PC |
- Check that the power switch is off.
- Connect your interface cable to the printer, then to the computer or network. Secure a USB cable with the locking wire saddle at the back. Tighten both screws of a serial plug.
- Connect the AC cable to the power supply and the DC cable to the printer's power supply connector.
- Plug the AC cable into a wall socket and lay the power supply down with its label facing down.
- Fit the connector cover: hook the two lugs at its top into the holes at the back of the printer and push it forward until the lower lugs engage. To remove it, press both sides inwards.
Never plug a telephone line into the drawer kick connector or the DM-D connector, never plug a network cable into the DM-D connector, and never push a USB-B plug into the Ethernet, drawer kick or DM-D connector.
Fit the slip ribbon
Slips are printed through the ERC-32 ribbon cartridge behind the front cover.
- Turn the knob on the cartridge a little in the direction of the arrow to take up slack. Turning it the other way can damage the cartridge.
- Switch the printer on and open the front cover.
- Remove the old cartridge, if there is one, and push the new one in until it clicks.
- Turn the knob in the arrow direction again, then close the front cover.
The ERC-43 ribbon in the receipt unit is for endorsement versions only.
Load the receipt roll
Use Epson-certified thermal paper 79.5 mm (±0.5 mm) wide and 48–80 µm thick, on rolls up to 83 mm in diameter. Epson recommends cores of 12 mm inside and 18 mm outside diameter.
- With the printer on, open the roll paper cover.
- Remove the empty core of the old roll, if there is one.
- Drop the new roll in the direction shown in Epson's drawing in the setup guide.
- Pull out a little paper, close the cover and tear the paper off against the manual cutter.
Never open a cover while the printer is printing or cutting, and keep your fingers away from the manual cutter blade when you change rolls.
Print a self-test on roll and slip paper
Receipt test
- Close all covers.
- Hold down FEED and switch the printer on. Keep holding until printing starts.
- The printer prints its current settings, then a note that the self-test continues. The Power light flashes.
- Press FEED briefly, for less than a second. A pattern prints and the test ends with "*** completed ***".
If the receipt comes out blank, the roll is the wrong way round. Load it again.
Slip test
- With roll paper loaded and all covers closed, switch the printer off.
- Hold down RELEASE and switch the printer on. Keep holding until the Slip light flashes.
- Insert a sheet as described in the next step. A pattern prints and the sheet is ejected.
- Remove the sheet to return to normal mode.
Insert slip paper in daily use
When your software prints a slip, the Slip light flashes to ask for paper.
- Place the sheet so that its right edge touches the paper guide on the right, as the label on the printer shows, and insert it.
- The Slip light stops flashing and stays on while the printer works in slip mode.
- When the Slip light flashes again, take the sheet out. RELEASE releases paper that the printer is still holding.
Slip paper can be 68–230 mm wide and 68–297 mm long (Epson gives 68 × 152 mm as the minimum size), and 0.09–0.22 mm thick for a single sheet. Use flat paper without curls, folds or wrinkles, and never insert sheets with staples or clips.
Set up the network
The printer gets its IP address automatically; without a DHCP server it uses 192.168.192.168. The Ethernet light at the connector flashes while it waits for an address and stays on once connected.
To see the IP address, print a status sheet: remove the connector cover, then, with the printer on and the roll paper cover closed, hold the status sheet button for at least 3 seconds until guidance starting with "Next Action" prints. Press FEED briefly the number of times shown next to the sheet you want, then hold it for 1 second. APD6 needs a fixed IP address: set one with the TM-H6000VI Utility or in Web Config (type the printer's IP address into a browser).
EU network security (Secure Printing)
Epson lists every TM-H6000VI model under the cybersecurity rules of the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED). A RED printer shows "Security Mode: RED" on its status sheet and ships with Secure Printing on. Over the network it then accepts only encrypted printing: plain printing to port 9100 (RAW), over HTTP on port 80 and to the ePOS ports 8008 and 8009 is blocked.
- Use RED-compatible Epson software, for example APD6 6.10 or later.
- The administrator password, needed to connect a host and change settings, is on a label on the printer and on the status sheet after "Initial Password". Change it in Web Config under Advanced Settings › Product Security › Administrator Password.
- USB and serial are not affected.
Secure Printing can be switched off in Web Config under Advanced Settings › Print › Secure Printing, but Epson does not recommend it. Ask your POS supplier first whether their software supports Epson's encrypted printing.
Connect a cash drawer or customer display
A 24 V printer-driven cash drawer plugs into the drawer kick connector (RJ12); press the plug in until it clicks. Epson's drawer requirements and pin layout match its other receipt printers, so our cash drawer guide applies: it explains how to check a drawer and open it from the driver or POS software.
An Epson DM-D110 or DM-D210 customer display goes into the DM-D connector; set DIP switch 2-2 to ON first. A DM-D30 or DM-D70 connects by USB to the USB Type-A port with DIP switch 2-2 OFF, the factory setting. Change DIP switches only with the printer switched off.
Finish the installation
- Power switch cover: optional; switch on or off with a pointed object through its hole.
- LED information label: if supplied, stick it inside the front cover. Its QR code opens Epson's TM-H6000VI LED information.
- Clock: the built-in clock may reset on first start-up or after a long time without power. Set it with the TM-H6000VI Utility over USB.
- Serial settings: the factory DIP switch settings are 19200 bps, 8 data bits, no parity and DTR/DSR handshaking. Set your POS software to match.

Frequently asked questions
Can the TM-H6000VI C31CL25102 read cheques?
No. Our version is Epson's standard model without a MICR reader. Epson sells separate TM-H6000VI versions with MICR, endorsement or validation.
Which ribbon does the TM-H6000VI use?
The ERC-32 cartridge for slip printing, fitted behind the front cover. Receipts are printed thermally and need no ribbon.
What is the default administrator password?
It is on the label on the printer and on the status sheet after "Initial Password". If your printer has no label, Epson's Web Config guide says the default is the printer's serial number.
