Honeywell, Datalogic and Newland each offer their own tools for setting up many mobile computers the same way, with or without an MDM. This guide covers the Honeywell EDA52, the Datalogic Memor K20 and Memor K25 and the Newland MT93. For Zebra devices, use Zebra StageNow and OEMConfig.

Newland MT93 Backup Recovery Copies app settings to another device by QR code (check on your MT93) No

If you already use Intune, Workspace ONE or SOTI MobiControl, enroll the devices with Android Enterprise and use these tools for the brand-specific settings.

    Prepare before you stage

    • Update one device to the firmware you want across the fleet, then use it as your test device.
    • Collect the Wi-Fi name, security type and password, and the app files or download links.
    • If the devices should join an MDM, get the agent details from your MDM vendor: the device admin component name, download location and checksum.
    • Start with factory-fresh devices, or reset them first.
    Important

Staging barcodes can contain Wi-Fi passwords and keys. Honeywell advises encrypted barcodes, no default keys and destroying printed sheets after use. Keep any printed codes away from users and visitors.

Honeywell EDA52: stage with Enterprise Provisioner

When an EDA52 starts for the first time, the Welcome screen lets you scan a configuration barcode or use the setup wizard. After setup, Provisioning mode switches off automatically: configuration barcodes are then ignored and the honeywell/autoinstall folders can't be reached. To stage a device that is already set up, turn it on under Settings › Honeywell Settings › Provisioning mode.

    1. Get Enterprise Provisioner and its user guide from Honeywell. The guide is listed among the EDA52 documents.
    2. Build the settings and apps you want to deploy, as the user guide describes, and create the configuration barcodes.
    3. Scan them on the Welcome screen, or with Provisioning mode on.
    4. Turn Provisioning mode off again. Honeywell recommends disabling it, or password-protecting it through your MDM or EZConfig.

Honeywell also names Enterprise Provisioner as a place to keep barcode encryption keys and to manage device settings. Other EDA52 tools:

    • EZConfig (Power Tools): XML editor with a configuration-barcode scanner.
    • HQ Config: offline rapid deployment of common settings, scan settings, apps and firmware.
    • HUpgrader: checks for and installs system updates.
    • Operational Intelligence: Honeywell's cloud platform. The EDA52 is in its device support matrix, and the preinstalled Staging Hub Agent app shows information about its device agent. Ask Honeywell about licensing.

Honeywell publishes an OEMConfig app on Google Play for MDM consoles. The EDA52 document list names a separate guide, "UEMConnect Settings for ScanPal", so ask Honeywell or your MDM vendor which app configures the EDA52.

Datalogic Memor K20/K25: stage with Scan2Deploy

The Scan2Deploy agent is preinstalled in the Datalogic Tools folder. Scan2Deploy Studio is the matching Windows desktop app.

    1. In Scan2Deploy Studio, click Create Profile.
    2. On the Action Selection page, choose what to set. Wi-Fi Setup is selected by default; you can add Enterprise Enrollment, Applications, Device and Scanner Settings, Scripts, File Upload and Datalogic Launcher.
    3. Fill in each page. Under Enterprise Enrollment, choosing your MDM in the EMM list fills in most fields; take the remaining values from your MDM vendor.
    4. On the Save and Scan page, check the summary, click Save, then PDF to download the barcodes.
    5. On the terminal, open Scan2Deploy and scan the barcodes.

Enterprise Enrollment needs firmware 1.01.05 or later on the Android 13 Memor K20/K25. A System Update profile installs firmware the same way.

Datalogic's other tools: OEMConfig for Datalogic settings from an MDM, the Android Enterprise QR Code Generator and the Android Wi-Fi QR Code Generator. The Memor K20/K25 manual also lists zero-touch, Android Enterprise QR code, NFC bump, EMM token and DPC identifier enrollment. The older DXU utility is deprecated on Android 13 devices and doesn't list the K20/K25.

Newland MT93: set up with Ndevor

Newland describes Ndevor as free management software for its devices, and the MT93 is on its device list. We found no separate Newland barcode staging tool for other MDMs.

    1. Create an account on the Ndevor portal. Change the temporary password from the e-mail at first login.
    2. Install the Ndevor client with Newland's installer app (NInstaller, also called Newland Installer), open it and confirm Activate the device admin app. Check on your MT93 whether Ndevor is already installed.
    3. Scan the QR code shown in the portal to enroll the MT93.
    4. Create profiles (Configuration, App, Desktop, Whitelist, Network, Firmware), bundle them in a policy and assign it to a device group.

Firmware profiles can only upgrade, not downgrade. Without Ndevor, Newland's Android app guide describes Quick Setting › Backup recovery: select the app settings and tap BACKUP to create a QR code, then scan it on the next device. Check on your MT93 that this app is there. To use another MDM, enroll the MT93 with Android Enterprise; Newland lists the MT93 Pro as Android Enterprise Recommended.

    Check each device after staging

    • Wi-Fi is connected and the device appears in your MDM or Ndevor.
    • Your apps are installed in the right version.
    • Scanning works in your app: see EDA52 scanner settings or MT93 scanner settings.
    • Provisioning mode is off again on the EDA52.

To lock the devices to your app afterwards, see kiosk mode for rugged devices.

    Common problems

    • The EDA52 ignores a configuration barcode: Provisioning mode is off. Turn it on, scan, then turn it off.
    • Scan2Deploy enrollment fails on a Memor K20/K25: update to firmware 1.01.05 or later, or enroll with the Android Enterprise QR Code Generator.
    • Scan2Deploy Studio shows no profiles or devices: wait a few minutes, then exit Studio fully from the system tray and restart it, and if needed the PC.
    • Ndevor changes arrive late: check whether the policy is scheduled for a set time, for example outside business hours.

    Frequently asked questions
