The Newland FM3056 Grouper belongs to Newland's FM30 Grouper II series of compact fixed-mount 2D scanners for building into self-service kiosks, ticket machines, access gates and checkout counters. Built to read from LCD screens, it captures all major 1D and 2D barcodes at high speed – from paper and labels as well as from smartphone displays (mobile tickets, loyalty cards, payment QR codes) – and its IR-assisted sense mode detects a presented code under virtually any ambient light, day or night. The FM3056 is the flush-mount version with a flush glass front: a flat glass surface instead of a recessed window and a lower housing of just 53 mm (78.7 × 67.7 × 53 mm, 168 g, 31.5 × 46.5 mm scan window) – ideal where the scanner should sit flush with the surface of a kiosk or counter. The detachable interface cable makes it a dual-interface scanner (USB or RS-232); it is ready to use out of the box (plug and play) and configurable with programming barcodes or the EasySet tool. Newland covers it with a 5-year (60-month) warranty. This version, NLS-FM3056-28, is the RS-232 kit: it is supplied with an RS-232 cable with power jack and a 5 V power adapter with interchangeable EU/UK/US plugs – everything needed for a serial connection.
📦 What's in the box – NLS-FM3056-28
- ✅ Newland FM3056 Grouper fixed-mount scanner – black, flush glass front, low 78.7 × 67.7 × 53 mm housing – for flush built-in installation; detachable cable on the RJ50 data port
- ✅ RS-232 cable with power jack – 9-pin (DB9) serial connector; the power adapter plugs into the cable's power jack
- ✅ 5 V power adapter (multi-plug) – with interchangeable EU, UK and US plugs – required for RS-232; plugs into the power jack of the RS-232 cable
- ❌ Mounting screws / brackets – not included – the scanner is fitted into your own kiosk, counter or panel cut-out
💡 No stand needed – the FM3056 Grouper is built into a cut-out in your kiosk, counter or panel and fixed with screws (ST2.0; M3.0 also supported on recent hardware – see the Newland user guide). Make sure the frame or panel does not cover the scanner's IR LEDs, otherwise the automatic sense mode may not work. The interface cable is detachable, so you can switch interfaces later simply by changing the cable – e.g. the Newland USB cable (CBL042UA) or the Newland RS-232 cable (CBL037R) (RS-232 always needs a 5 V power supply).
Key Features
- Flush glass front – the flat glass surface and the low 53 mm housing let the scanner sit flush with the surface of a kiosk or counter for a sleek, seamless look (31.5 × 46.5 mm scan window).
- Effortless scanning from phone screens – built to read from LCD screens, the Grouper II reads barcodes from any mobile device display – mobile tickets, e-vouchers, loyalty cards and payment QR codes; its extended IR capability detects codes under virtually any ambient light, day or night.
- Superior decoding performance – the 752 × 480 CMOS sensor at 60 frames per second and Newland's decoding chip read virtually any 1D and 2D barcode (EAN/UPC, Code 128, GS1 DataBar, QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF417 …) at high speed, with a 75° × 50° field of view and 360° roll tolerance.
- Automatic sense mode – the scanner wakes up and reads as soon as a code is presented; continuous mode is available as well, and the good-read beep and illumination are configurable.
- Easily mounted in small spaces – with a footprint of just 78.7 × 67.7 mm, the Grouper II takes up minimal space in a kiosk, ticket machine or POS counter.
- Dual interface, plug and play – USB (HID keyboard, USB CDC virtual COM, HID-POS, IBM SurePOS) or RS-232 via the detachable cable on the RJ50 data port; configuration with programming barcodes or the EasySet tool; OPOS and JPOS drivers available; 5-year Newland warranty.
Ideal Applications
- Self-service kiosks and ticket machines – mobile tickets, e-vouchers and booking codes
