The Newland FR40 Koi is a premium corded presentation scanner for checkout counters and service desks – and the first presentation scanner on the market with a megapixel camera. Its 1280 × 800 sensor reads all major 1D and 2D barcodes, including dense and complex codes, on paper labels and products as well as on phone screens. An infrared sensor wakes the scanner the instant a code is presented, and its soft illumination, angled at 10°, is comfortable for customers and staff alike. With IP52 sealing, a 1.2 m drop rating and a 5-year (60-month) Newland warranty, it is built for years of daily use. This version, NLS-FR4080-20, is the USB kit: it is supplied with a 2 m USB cable – ready to plug in and scan, no power supply needed.

Key Features
- First presentation scanner with a megapixel camera – the 1280 × 800 CMOS sensor reads all major 1D and 2D codes (QR Code, Data Matrix, Aztec, PDF417 and more) quickly and accurately, including dense and complex codes; GS1 ready.
- Paper and phone screens – reads codes from labels, receipts and products as well as from smartphone displays: mobile tickets, e-coupons, loyalty cards and payment QR codes.
- Infrared trigger – the built-in IR sensor detects a presented item instantly and starts scanning automatically (sense mode), for a fast, hands-free checkout flow.
- Two scan modes at the push of a button – a switch on the scanner toggles between Normal mode and High Motion Tolerance mode for fast-moving items (up to 2.5 m/s); a red or green LED shows which mode is active.
- Comfortable illumination – the scan window is angled at 10° and the soft white illumination does not dazzle customers or staff; facing outwards, it does not draw unnecessary attention.
- Built to last – IP52 sealing against dust and water, withstands multiple 1.2 m drops to concrete, ±14 kV ESD protection and a 5-year warranty.
- Dual interface: USB and RS-232 – the interface is determined by the detachable cable: USB HID keyboard, USB CDC (virtual COM), HID-POS and IBM SurePOS, or RS-232; JPOS/OPOS drivers and the EasySet configuration tool are available.
Ideal Applications
- Retail checkouts and POS counters – products, receipts, loyalty cards and mobile coupons
- Pharmacies – dense 2D codes on medicine packs and prescriptions
- Ticket verification – event, cinema and travel tickets on paper or phone screens
- Hospitality – hotels, restaurants and cafés: vouchers, booking codes and order codes
