The Honeywell HF520 is a compact fixed-mount 2D imager module – a self-contained unit with decoding optics, housing, exit window and interface board – for building into self-service kiosks, vending and ticket machines, payment terminals, access gates and checkout counters. Honeywell's Gen7 decoder and a wide 83° × 66.2° field of view read all 1D, PDF417 and 2D barcodes in an instant, with particularly strong performance on highly reflective smartphone screens as well as on printed labels, while white LED illumination keeps label reading reliable in low light. At just 41.7 × 41.7 × 32.5 mm and 58 g, with threaded inserts for mounting, it fits into tight spaces – and it is electrically and mechanically backwards compatible with its predecessor for easy migration. This version, HF520-R1-1USB, is supplied without an interface cable (scanner only) – order the USB or RS-232 cable that suits your installation separately.
📦 What's in the box – HF520-R1-1USB
- ✅ Honeywell HF520 fixed-mount 2D imager module – black, 41.7 × 41.7 × 32.5 mm, 58 g, IP40 – for built-in installation
- ❌ Interface cable – not included – order separately (see below)
- ❌ Power supply – not included – not needed with a USB cable (the scanner is powered via USB)
- ❌ Mounting screws / bracket – not included – fix the module with your own screws via the M2 and M3 threaded inserts in the housing
⚠️ Interface cable not included. You need a cable to connect the HF520 to your host system – for USB the CBL-500-270-S00 USB cable (2.7 m) or the CBL-500-150-S00-03 USB cable (1.5 m) (both USB-powered), for RS-232 the CBL-020-150-S00-01 RS-232 cable (1.5 m).
💡 No stand needed – the HF520 is built into your kiosk, machine or counter and fixed via its M2/M3 threaded inserts (see the dimensional drawing in the Honeywell datasheet and do not exceed the specified screw torque). Need a different cable? Choose the CBL-500-270-S00 USB cable (2.7 m) or the CBL-500-150-S00-03 USB cable (1.5 m); for RS-232 hosts use the CBL-020-150-S00-01 RS-232 cable (1.5 m) – and if your host does not supply 5 V, add the HCB-PWR-01 power supply.
Key Features
- Built for screens and labels – optimised for highly reflective smartphone displays (mobile tickets, boarding passes, payment and loyalty QR codes) as well as printed labels; white LED illumination improves label reading in low light.
- Gen7 decoding core – Honeywell's latest decoder quickly reads all common 1D, PDF417, 2D and postal symbologies, including QR Code, Data Matrix, Aztec, MaxiCode, Han Xin, Grid Matrix and DotCode.
- Wide view for near-field reading – an 83° × 66.2° field of view and a shallow depth of field are optimised for codes presented close to the scan window – e.g. a 13 mil UPC-A from 15 to 110 mm.
- Excellent motion tolerance – reads codes moving at up to 3.9 m/s, so users do not have to hold their phone or ticket still – faster transactions and shorter queues.
- Compact and robust – just 41.7 × 41.7 × 32.5 mm and 58 g, IP40 housing, withstands two 1.5 m drops onto concrete and works from −10 °C to 50 °C.
- Easy integration and migration – USB and TTL-RS232 interfaces, Windows driver support, configuration via menu commands or the EZConfig online tool (compatible with mainstream Honeywell scan engines and modules) and electrical and mechanical backwards compatibility with its predecessor.
- Low power consumption – 2.1 W when scanning and only 0.7 W in standby at 5 VDC – ideal for machines that run around the clock.
Ideal Applications
- Self-service kiosks and check-in/check-out terminals – booking codes, boarding passes and e-tickets
- Vending, lottery and ticket machines – mobile vouchers, QR tickets and coupons
- Mobile payments and billing – scan-to-pay QR codes at payment terminals and cash registers
- Access control, turnstiles and gates – QR tickets and staff or visitor passes
- Retail counters and self-checkouts – loyalty cards, coupons and product barcodes
- Parcel lockers, libraries and pick-up stations – pick-up and return codes

Not sure which version to choose? Both are the same HF520 scanner: HF520-R1-0USB comes with a 0.5 m USB cable – ideal when the host's USB port is close to the scanner – while HF520-R1-1USB is the scanner only, for installations that need a longer USB cable or an RS-232 connection.
