The Newland FM430 Barracuda is a compact fixed-mount 2D scanner module (just 41.5 × 49.5 × 24.3 mm) for building into self-service kiosks, ticket machines, access gates, checkout counters and production lines. Its megapixel camera (1280 × 800) and 1 GHz processor read all major 1D and 2D barcodes – including very small codes and codes on smartphone screens – at 60 frames per second, while IR and light sensors start scanning automatically as soon as a code is presented and adapt the white illumination to the situation. IP54 sealing and a 1.5 m drop rating make it suitable for outdoor kiosks too, and Newland covers it with a 5-year warranty. This version, NLS-FM430L-00, has a red laser cross-hair aimer (the “L” in the part number) whose bright, precise aiming pattern makes scanning intuitive even for first-time users, and is the short-cable USB kit: it is supplied with a 0.5 m USB cable for installation right next to the host computer – no power supply needed.
📦 What's in the box – NLS-FM430L-00
- ✅ Newland FM430 Barracuda fixed-mount scanner – black, compact 41.5 × 49.5 × 24.3 mm module with red laser aimer; USB and RS-232 (depending on the cable)
- ✅ Short USB cable (0.5 m) – direct connection for installation right next to the host – e.g. inside a kiosk or machine; the scanner is powered via USB
- ❌ Power supply – not needed – the scanner is powered via USB
- ❌ Mounting screws / brackets – not included – the module is fastened via the mounting points on its base in your own kiosk, counter or machine
📏 Short cable: the 0.5 m USB cable is meant for installation close to the host computer. Need more length? Choose the NLS-FM430L-U version with a 2 m USB cable, or order the Newland USB cable (CBL042UA) separately.
💡 No stand needed – the FM430 Barracuda is a compact module that is fastened via the mounting points on its base in your kiosk, counter, machine or conveyor (see the mechanical drawing in the Newland user guide). The interface cable is detachable, so you can switch interfaces later simply by changing the cable – e.g. the Newland USB cable (CBL042UA) or the Newland RS-232 cable (CBL037R) (RS-232 always needs a 5 V power supply).
Key Features
- Megapixel camera – the 1280 × 800 sensor and a 1 GHz processor read 1D and 2D barcodes – including very small, dense codes and codes on smartphone screens – at 60 frames per second; OCR is supported as well.
- Snappy in less than perfect conditions – the combination of an IR sensor and a light sensor wakes the scanner as soon as a code is presented, and the white illumination automatically adjusts its brightness to the light reflected by the barcode.
- Your choice of aimer – a green LED aimer (FM430) for customer-facing installations, or a bright red laser cross-hair (FM430L) that makes scanning intuitive even for inexperienced users.
- Hands-free or triggered – sense and continuous modes for automatic scanning, or manual triggering if preferred (level and pulse modes).
- Tiny and robust – at 41.5 × 49.5 × 24.3 mm and 75 g it fits almost anywhere; IP54 sealing and a 1.5 m drop rating allow use in outdoor kiosks and demanding environments.
- Dual interface, easy integration – USB (HID keyboard, USB CDC virtual COM, HID-POS, IBM SurePOS) or RS-232 via the detachable cable on the RJ50 data port; EasySet configuration tool and a 5-year Newland warranty.
