The Zebra DS8288-HC is the cordless Bluetooth® healthcare model of Zebra's next-generation premium DS82 Series, built for stronger infection control and smoother clinical workflows. Its disinfectant-ready Healthcare White housing – smooth, crevice-free surfaces, a sealed inductive trigger, antimicrobial labels and contactless charging with no exposed metal contacts – is easier to clean and disinfect, while an exclusive 2 MP sensor with high-density focus reads challenging barcodes on wristbands, medication, IV and blood bags and specimens at the first attempt. Bluetooth 5.2 (Class 1) gives clinicians up to 100 m of freedom from the cradle, every version is Apple MFi certified for direct use with iPhone and iPad apps, and the scanner and cradle are backed by a 3-year (36-month) Zebra warranty. This version, DS8288-HCBU210MPAW, is powered by the 3,500 mAh PowerPrecision+ battery and is the presentation cradle USB kit: it is supplied with the white CR8288-PC healthcare presentation cradle (Bluetooth charging and communication base for hands-free scanning) and a USB cable – everything you need to start scanning cordlessly at the PC or the medication cart.

• Disinfectant-ready, infection-control design – the disinfectant-safe Healthcare White plastics and smooth, crevice-free surfaces withstand aggressive cleaning, the sealed inductive trigger removes one of the most common places for microbes to build up, and antimicrobial labels add further protection (see Zebra's Product Reference Guide for the list of approved cleaners).
• Exclusive 2 MP sensor with high-density focus – a 1600 × 1200 pixel imager with Zebra PRZM Intelligent Imaging quickly and reliably reads challenging barcodes on medication labels, translucent IV bags, blood bags, specimen trays and the wristbands of even the smallest patients – down to 3 mil (Code 39, Code 128) and 5 mil (Data Matrix, QR Code).
• Cordless Bluetooth® freedom – Bluetooth 5.2 with BLE and Class 1 range of up to 100 m from the cradle; the scanner can also pair directly with Bluetooth PCs, tablets and smartphones (HID and Serial Port profiles).
• Swappable power – battery or PowerCap – choose the 3,500 mAh PowerPrecision+ battery (up to 100,000 scans per charge – more than four days of around-the-clock scanning, with battery health metrics) or the PowerCap supercapacitor (up to 6,000 scans per charge, 100 scans after just 35 seconds in the cradle, no battery to maintain or dispose of). Both can be swapped on any DS8288 at any time, and a dedicated power gauge shows the charge level at a glance.
• Contactless charging – less to clean – the scanner charges inductively in its CR8288 cradle, so there are no exposed metal charging contacts and fewer hard-to-clean crevices; maintenance-free charging also extends the life of scanner and cradle.
• Choice of compact, USB-powered white cradles – the presentation cradle fits on a crowded workstation-on-wheels for quick switching between hands-free and handheld use, and the desk/wall cradle mounts on a wall, arm or mobile workstation; both always align the scanner for charging, and an integrated magnet keeps it securely in place when mounted.
• Never lose a scanner in the bedding – Zebra's Virtual Tether alerts staff when the scanner is taken out of range or left out of its cradle, for example when it is lost in patient bedding or separated from a workstation-on-wheels; scanner and cradle can send audio, visual or haptic alerts (quietly in Night Mode), the cradle's paging button finds a misplaced scanner instantly, and Bluetooth beaconing lets your existing locationing applications find it anywhere in the unit.
• UDI Scan+ and Blood Bag Parse+ – UDI Scan+ automatically parses medical device identification fields, and Blood Bag Parse+ captures and formats blood type, donation details, expiry date and more with a single trigger pull; built-in algorithms make sure multiple barcodes are sent in the correct order.
• Multi-function button – a programmable second trigger with haptic feedback: scan into the EHR, then switch to a phlebotomy or specimen-labelling app with a single press, without changing devices.
• Patient-friendly feedback – intelligent illumination switches on only when a scan is needed, and you can choose vibration, LEDs, soft adjustable tones and one-touch Night Mode – every scan is confirmed without disturbing patients.
• Healthcare-friendly LED aimer – a green 524 nm LED aimer instead of a laser, so the scanner can be used throughout the hospital, including the NICU and other areas where laser aimers are not advised.
• Document capture – the 2 MP sensor captures high-quality images of patient documents, and Intelligent Document Capture (IDC) enhances each image and extracts barcode data automatically – digitise forms at admission and discharge without extra equipment. The scanner also reads OCR, GS1 Digital Link and Digimarc codes and barcodes on phone screens.
• Apple MFi certified – every DS8288-HC version is MFi certified, so iPhone and iPad apps (for example apps built with the Zebra Scanner SDK for iOS) can communicate with the scanner directly over Bluetooth; simple keyboard (HID) input works with any Bluetooth host.
• Easy to deploy – the cradle connects to the host via USB or RS232 (auto-host detection) and also has a USB-C port; supports more than 90 international keyboards and is FIPS 140-3 certified.
